Pear Dessert Contest
The Kelseyville Pear Festival’s Annual Pear Dessert Contest will be held
on Friday, September 26, 2008. Experienced cooks and beginners alike are encouraged
to enter their favorite pear dessert.
To be eligible, desserts must contain at least one-half cup of pears; any variety of is acceptable and the pears may be fresh, canned, frozen, or dried. Desserts must be ready to eat, be in a disposable container, and be submitted along with a legible copy of the recipe that includes the name of the entrant and the name of the dessert.
To be considered in the judging, desserts must be delivered to the Kelseyville Presbyterian Church, Friendship Hall, between 11:00 a.m. and noon on Friday, September 26. Judging will follow at 2:00 p.m.
All desserts will be donated to the Kelseyville Presbyterian Church Youth Fund to be used to raise money to send youth to camp.
All recipes become the property of the Kelseyville Business Association and the Pear Festival Committee for future publication and promotion.
Pear Prince and Princess
A Pear Prince and Pear Princess of the Kelseyville Pear Festival is chosen
every year from the Kelseyville School system. Students in the Fourth
and Fifth grades are encouraged to write essays on WHY ARE PEARS IMPORTANT.
Essays are judged by retired school teachers. The winning boy and girl
become the Prince and Princess. Essay contest winners are awarded a$100.00
savings bond from the Kelseyville branch of WestAmerica Bank. See them in the parade.
Pear Packing Contest
This year’s Pear Packing Contest is sponsored by Scully Packing. The Pear Packing contest takes place on Festival Day! Pear packers from
area packing sheds compete for speed and neatness filling pears into
regulation cardboard boxes. Be sure to watch this fun contest at 11:00
at the Pear Pavilion. Cash prizes will be awarded to the winners.
Poster Contest
Local artists are encouraged to submit artwork that captures the spirit
of the Kelseyville Pear Festival and/or Kelseyville's pear heritage.
This year's winning piece has been reproduced as a commemorative poster. It will be for sale at the Festival. This year's winner is Diane Tembey-Stawicki, a local artist from Kelseyville. Watch for the original art work to be shown at the Saw Shop Gallery Bistro on Main Street in Kelseyville during the month of September.
