Poster Contest Winners
Pat Courtney - First Place
Taking inspiration from an artistically oriented family, Pat Courtney has been involved in the arts from earliest recollection.
Although proficient in various disciplines, she has chosen watercolor as her main source of expression. She considers herself a “Representational Impressionist” striving to capture the essence of a subject rather that an exact copy.
Formal education was obtained through related studies at the University of the Pacific, Santa Rosa Junior College, Mendocino Community College and with such noted California watercolorists as Robert Nash, Nat Levy, George Post, Richard Yip and Kenneth Potter.
After retiring from a long career in the floral industry as an entrepreneur and free-lance designer, Pat is now enjoying giving full attention to china painting and watercolors. She is now represented in private collections in New Jersey, New York, Maryland, Wisconsin, Michigan, Texas, Arizona, Oregon, Washington and, of course, California.
“My joy is in the media itself- the blending of color, shape, line and form. As the impressions develop, the subject evolves, not from literal visions, but from internal imagination and often represent a deep seated conviction that I would like to convey to the viewer.”
Annette Higday - First Place
Annette Higday has been interested in doing artwork since childhood. She spent 23 years teaching elementary school in Modesto and Vallejo, enjoying art projects with students using several different media. Annette took a watercolor class at Modesto Jr. College from renowned artist Dan Peterson, which got her interested in continuing watercolor as a hobby. She has added “impasto” acrylic style painting to her repertoire. She has shown her work at Perlz in Kelseyville, Art in Public Places in Lakeport and the Saw Shop Gallery & Bistro. Her “painted pets” are currently displayed and for sale at Furry Tales pet store in the Riviera.
Moving to Lake County in 1994 and retiring from teaching in 1999 made it possible to join the Konocti Art Society, where she learns from fellow art friends.
Annette’s posters have been used for the Pear Festival and others won 2nd and 3rd places.

With painting she expresses her inner joy and beauty, and offers her selections for all to share and enjoy as well. Diane is an artist of spirituality and caring, and these qualities are expressed through her work, which she so lovingly enjoys.
