KELSEYVILLE, CA - The 16th Annual Kelseyville Pear Festival will be held on September 27, 2008, on Main Street in historic downtown Kelseyville in Northern California.
This year, the Kelseyville Pear Festival will feature an expanded Pear Pavilion that will highlight the town's agricultural heritage with historical photos and exhibits. Festival-goers will be able to learn all about the many types of pears grown in and around Kelseyville, affectionately known as the "Pear Capital of the World."
The Pear Pavilion also will showcase some of Lake County's finest "pear products" - from jams and jellies to refreshing pear ice cream and delicious pear pies - and provide a venue for cooking demonstrations throughout the day. Pear taste-tests and pear-packing competitions are all part of the family fun.
The Kelseyville Pear Parade, a Lake County tradition, kicks off the day's festivities at 9:30 a.m. and is a must-see for families. Children also will enjoy a wide array of children's activities including jump houses, a ride-on shuttle, and even a petting zoo.
Local tractor collectors will show of their finest antique tractors, steam engines, and all types of farm equipment in the Antique Tractor and Engine Exhibit.
The event, which is always held on the last Saturday in September to celebrate the local harvest, also features a quilt show, a fine arts show, local arts and crafts, as well as performances throughout the day from local musicians, dancers, and cloggers. Mule-drawn wagon rides through the streets add to the hometown feel.
